Eiderduck

LAST UPDATE: Eiderduck has gone to her eternal reward and is no longer fit for service. Such is the way of luan… Her place will be taken by Heron‘s ship’s boat once we get to that point.

The Eiderduck is the dinghy that matches the Merganser.¬† She is a 7-foot-9-inch rowboat, and like the ‘Ganser, was also made by our Captain by hand. Eiderduck was built in 2008, while “First Mate” Sarah O’Connor was working on the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire.

Chris came out to visit many times that summer, sailing Merganser from Rye Harbor to Gosport Harbor, a distance of approximately 6 miles of open ocean. Star Island’s policy states that vessels must use dinghies to land, so Eiderduck was born to meet that necessity. We have a small sailing rig for her, too – all we need is a teeny swivel gun to match!
